Dear friends,
Welcome to Areopagus!
The
Areopagus Centre is a nongovernmental, non-profit organisation seeking to study
the religious phenomena and to contribute to the enhancement of the role played
by the religious communities in Romania and South Eastern Europe.
The
Centre functions across denominational boundaries, offering an ideal framework
for dialogue and cooperation between the various religious groups and traditions
of Romania.
Areopagus was founded in 1997 by a group of Christians
preoccupied to present the Gospel in a relevant way to our contemporary society
and culture. It was constituted as an association of 28 members which included
Christians from all walks of life: theologians, medical doctors, professors,
business people, pastors, missionaries, etc.
Today the Centre enjoys
high recognition both nationally and internationally, its activities being
already mentioned in scholarly articles such as "Eastern
Orthodoxy and Evangelicalism: The Status of an Emerging Global Dialogue", in
Scottish Bulletin of Evangelical Theology: Vol. 1, Spring, 2000.
Also,
in a message, the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Dr. Walter
Schwimmer, mentioning Areopgaus said:
They act as a driving force and
bring together the essential partners for dialogue.
I am
confident that the Romanian experience, and în particular the experience of the
different cultural and religious communities living together here în Timisoara,
will provide useful insight for our common work at the European level.
(Walter Schwimmer, "Democracy and
Religion", 31 mai 2002)
We hope that visiting us you will like us,
and thus you will always come back to Areopagus with great pleasure.
Yours ever, Dr.
Silviu Rogobete, The President of the General Assembly of the Areopagus
Center
